Ruth Williams
Ruth Williams, owner of The Sugar Mouse is originally from Essex England. She started selling her British recipe cupcakes in 2012 to support child victims of sex trafficking in Cambodia.
After befriending a young girl there and her rescuer, Somaly Mam, she founded ‘Heart Mothers’, a group of over 100 women who support and mentor children rescued from this abomination.
To help fund their orphanage Ruth started selling cupcakes at the local Farmers Market, sending thousands of dollars every year to help the girls. She became known in Laramie as ‘the cupcake lady’. After one particularly stormy day when rain ripped through the tent and ruined hundreds of cakes, she decided it was time to look for a storefront.
In 2019 she rented a small shop, and ‘The Sugar Mouse Cupcake House’ was created. Named after a favorite British candy, Ruth sells over twenty flavors of cupcakes, British sweets, and gifts. The menu has traditional English lunches and of course, cream teas. Every child who visits receives a sugar mouse.
Ruth still supports her girls in Cambodia and runs Heart Mothers. The Cambodian Government now financially supports the orphanage, so The Sugar Mouse runs as a private business while donating to fundraisers for the girls and many local organizations.
